Organizing business and technology teams for fast flow: book + training + consulting

Guided Workshops

Guided Workshops accelerate adoption and increase practical awareness

Our engaging Guided Workshop sessions help you to adopt Team Topologies quickly with confidence

Team Topologies Guided Workshops provide an ideal way to adopt Team Topologies ideas and patterns within any organization. Devised and validated by the authors or Team Topologies, Matthew Skelton and Manuel Pais, the Guided Workshops condense many years of consulting experience into focused 3-hour sessions that deliver practical benefits immediately.

The Guided Workshops are designed to help people discover patterns and principles themselves through the application of Team Topologies ideas in a group setting. There is very little overlap in material and focus between the Team Topologies Academy and the Guided Workshops; in fact, many people find their experience at the Guided Workshops enhanced by attending Academy video training (and some workshops, such as P810, have pre-requisite Academy training).

Powerful change-making

The Guided Workshop sessions from Team Topologies are for up to 15 people (to maximize engagement). The sessions use timeboxed focus on specific topics to uncover current states and future possibilities for change based on the knowledge and viewpoints of people in the session. Attendees are guided towards new perspectives and ways of thinking based on Team Topologies ideas and patterns.

Attendees use a shared canvas (in Miro) to explore blockers, challenges, assumptions, and risks, before being encouraged to adopt some new viewpoints based on Team Topologies principles such as fast flow, rapid feedback, team cognitive load, four fundamental team types, Conway’s Law, three team interaction modes, interaction evolution, and organizational sensing.

Towards the end of the session(s), attendees are asked to reflect on their new awareness and define some new actions based on the material shared in the workshop.

Engagement model and delivery

The Guided Workshops from Team Topologies are delivered by Team Topologies trusted partners including the authors (Matthew Skelton and Manuel Pais) and a small circle of Team Topologies Valued Practitioners (TTVP).

There are typically three options available for each type of workshop:

  1. Micro: 1 x 3-hour session

  2. Small: 3 x 3-hour sessions

  3. Medium: 6 x 3-hour sessions

The material covered in each “size” of session is broadly the same but the larger sizes address topics in more depth.

All sessions are delivered over video call using Miro as the shared canvas. Video call technology options are: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet.
